Backstage at Coachella, Eminem was photographed holding up his ten-year sobriety medallion, which he proudly shared with the world on Instagram. His announcement got over 1.6 million likes, and the famed rapper has indeed come a long way.
*As the Fix reports, Eminem was taking Vicodin, Valium, Ambien, and Methadone. “I used to get pills wherever I could,” he said. “I was just taking anything that anybody was giving to me.”
*The rapper finally cleaned up his act after an overdose in 2007. When he first went to rehab, it was hard to get sober being a celebrity. “I felt like I was Bugs Bunny in rehab,” he recalled.
*”When Bugs Bunny walks into rehab, people are going to turn and look,” he continued. “People at rehab were stealing my hats and pens and notebooks and asking for autographs. I couldn’t concentrate on my problem.” The second time he tried to clean up, the rapper detoxed, hooked up with a counselor, and started exercising heavily.
A way out
*Eminem said that running “gave me a natural endorphin high, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect. It’s easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise. One addiction for another but one that’s good for them.”
*Other factors that are keeping Eminem sober is the love of his family, and help from an “unofficial sponsor,” Elton John, who has been sober for three decades now.
